Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 to an incredibly musical family from Newark New Jersey is the daughter of the gospel singers Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. They are also cousins of singer Dionne Warwick. Her mother and she began to sing professionally together in the church of New Hope Baptist in Newark at the age of 15 years old. They performed the back vocals for Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. In the year 1981, she did a stint as a fashion model and also appeared on the Seventeen Cover. The album that followed it in 1987 Whitney that included hits What Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody built the foundation of her popularity, however it was her 1992 movie The Bodyguard (1992) that established her as one of the most successful artists ever. Though the movie was not very well received, nor did her performance, but the music of the film's Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You hit the top of both the singles and album charts in America for months. It sold 44,000,000 copies. That same year she married ex-New Edition singer Bobby Brown with whom she had her only child their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, born in March 1993. In 1996 her daily consumption of the drug was well-documented.
